Video card just died. Did I make the right choice?

My 7870 is showing yellow lines at the BIOS and all I see is a black screen after post.

I was hoping the 7870 would last until AMD's new R9 series since it's been experiencing artifacts at stock speed, but now I can't even boot with it.

I went to Microcenter and picked up an open box GTX770 for $380 and now my system is working again.

I currently play games at 1080 with one monitor with the possibility of increasing my resolution or monitors in the future.

I guess what I'm trying to see is, if I will be satisfied with the 770 with the new AMD generation coming out soon, especially since Microcenter has a 30 day return policy?

The GTX770 is ranked #3 out of 212 graphic cards... you definitely made the right choice in buying this card!

It really depends on your budget. The new AMD cards look really good at least from early benchmarks. The only question is what price will they launch at and what you can afford. The 770 is a solid card and if it lets you play the games that you play at the resolution you like then keep it. $380 is a great price.

If AMD launches a card at that price point that destroys it then by all means return it if you can.

I don't really have a budget target. It mostly depends on if the performance/$ is reasonable, which is why I got the 770 instead of the 780.

I feel like it would look bad if tried to returned it after ~25 days with the reason that the new AMD cards are out.

Well it might but just don't tell them that's why you are returning the card! ;)
