Hi, so I'm using the Edimax Nano USB wireless network adapter but for some reason I keep getting terrible connection. It's plugged in to the top of my computer and that is on the 2nd floor (so in a way 3rd floor if you do it as 1st floor instead of ground floor) in my house (so it's roughly 30 - 40ft away with many obstacles in the way) I'm using Sky's internet which is something like 15mbps or possibly more, I'm not too sure about that but the router and speed are absolutely fine it's just something to do with my adapter, well, I think so anyway. That's why I've come on here to seek advice and help. The adapter I'm using is a very small one (hence the use of the word 'nano' in its name) so I'm just wondering if that's the issue. Should I get an adapter which has a big antenna? If so, could someone suggest one to me? One which is preferably available on Scan.co.uk. It has broke a little bit but it's just a little of plastic on the side which has broken off when it got really hot and I tried to take the adapter out but I've only had a month so surely in can't have broken, or could it have? In a way I think that, that's the issue but then my on my phone the internet is absolutely fine at the same distance so what's wrong? There's no-one else using the internet demandingly so I just find it very strange and annoying and it would be great if you someone could help me, thanks for reading!

Yes, the nano USB WiFi adapters generally do have crappy signal reception at any distance. There is only so much antenna they can cram into 1/2" square space.

A replacement? Anything with a larger antenna, wither USB or PCI-E.

USB "nano" wireless adapters tend to have signal problems since they are so small, everything has to miniaturized, even the antenna. Since you are using a desktop, I'd recommend a PCI or PCI Express wireless card if you have room inside the case. I have a TP-Link WDN4800 Dual-Band wireless-N card in my desktop, and it works great.

That being said, do you know what channel your wireless router is using? Lower frequencies tend to travel through obstacles easier. Also, is there any other wireless networks around that could be interfering with your wireless network?

Thank you for simple and effective answer! Although I thought that because it's a nano adapter, it'll have a nano antenna and so a bad signal, many people who left reviews said that they still got perfect signal around their house but I'll definitely get a bigger adapter thank you!
