my seagate 500gb i asking me to format i tried to but saying unable to format what should i do?

Is this a new drive or an old one?
Usually, if you have to format a hard drive, it is either brand new (manufacturers ship drives unformatted) or it is failing and information has been lost. The "unable to format" sounds like it may be failing.
