P5NE SLI and SSD Boot Problems

Hi,

I bought a new OCZ Vertex 450 128gb SSD to run in my now fairly dated P5NE SLI mobo. I have been having problems with it however. I installed windows, but I was getting an error message when I tried to boot up my system. It said
File: \boot\bcd Status 0xc000000e Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

I therefore reinstalled windows, but to no avail. My previous HDD had no problems running with the specs I currently have, but this SSD has been having problems. I also had a sandisk SSD before now, a few weeks ago but I was also having problems with that SSD (it wiped itself clean every few days.)

Can anyone help me sort this out, is it a sata 2 to sata 3 comparability issue or something different?

Thanks.

Specs:
P5NE SLI mobo
4gb DDR2 RAM
GeForce 8600gt gpu
Intel core 2 quad q660

You might want to look through these SSD installation guides and see if anything pertains to your set up:
1) http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds
2) http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html

Your board is quite old and does not support TRIM. Nor does it support AHCI mode for SATA devices. I think. That may be your problem. You could try installing the latest BIOS version to see if there is any updates to those two items.

Edit: I'm going from memory. I used to have that same board, but that was before SSDs were available at good prices.

Hi again,

I can't seem to install the BIOS, the tool doesn't run for both 64bit versions and 32bit. It says it is not compatible with my version of windows. Anyone have any suggestions for this?

The issues that you are having, while not the same as I had, are re-kindling memories of why I finally decided to change MBs. I was having several problems with "tweaking" the MB. Just getting it to run stable with all 4 memory slots populated with the fastest memory was an issue. So, your problem may very well be just a quirk of that board. As I remember, it wasn't sold very long.

On a somewhat un-related issue. If all else fails for you, you could do like I did with a 2nd machine of mine. Leave the HDD in as your C: drive and pick up a SanDisk ReadyCache SSD: http://www.sandisk.com/products/ssd/sata/readycache/
The machine I put one on seems just as fast as if the whole HDD was a SDD now. Here's a review of the SanDisk ReadyCache SSD if you're interested:

Looks like it is a MB compatibility issue. sandforce based controller like Agility 3 perform quite efficiently on other third party MBs. May be a MB firmware update can come to rescue.

There are no BIOS updates for me as ABIT went under quite some time ago.

You need a different avatar by the way.
