When I OC my FX 8320 to 4.85GHz with 1.446V on the core the temp will peak at 71c. Normally I keep it at 4.4Ghz and stock voltage and the temp never exceeds 62c.

I just put an H80 on my other comp with an AMD 965 at 3.6GHz and 53c was as hot as it got with the cooler set to low.

Also I keep my house at 30c.

Given the temps do I really need to step up to the H100i? I would like to keep the 8320 clocked at 4.85 but I dont want to destroy the chip. Should I worry about 71c?

71C is too hot. if that temp is being reported correctly, you're already 3C too hot for safe and stable operation of the chip. 4.85ghz is a nice overclock, but you're past your thermal limits without a better cpu cooler i wouldn't run that as your day to day clock, you'll risk permanently damaging your cpu.

That 71C is that in a prime95 run or is that just normal operations? cause if that isn't a prime95 burn temp your overclock is already well beyond the safety point of the fx chip.

The 71 was actually Passmark CPU Test. In prime95 it only got to 69c
