I am building a new PC and every time I try and install Windows 7 it freezes. The motherboard and graphics e.t.c also get very hot and during one test there was a strange smell...that’s when we ceased testing.
My spec is:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard
AMD FX8150 CPU (Stock Fan)
2 x 4GB Crucial Ballistix 1866 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5450 Graphics Card
128 Crucial SSD
Sony AD-5280S-0B CD Drive
500watt Power Supply
Sharkoon Tower Case VS3-V USB 3.0 (Has a fan on the front of the case)
Additional:
Thermal paste was applied correctly and the CPU has no bent pins.
Used 4pin power supply although board has an 8pin slot.
Everything was bought used appart from power supply and graphics card which were taken from my old build. (motherboard was bought refurbished)
When the computer crashed it seemed the mouse and keyboard where still functioning (i.e caps lock light would go on and off when caps lock was pressed) but the screen had froze.
CPU temprature was about 51c and system tempreture was about 39c when checked through the bios.
Many different things where tried like 1 stick of ram, switching the stick also changeing ram ports. Also using back USB ports for USB devices then using internal USB ports for USB devices.
My friend who used to work in a computer repair shop believes it is the motherboard.
Could this be the problem?
Please help
Many thanks
Luke
