My graphics driver for my GTX 580 keep faililng. I'm using the latest drivers for Nvidia and I don't have Nvidia HD Audio installed.

GTX 580
Windows 7 ultimate

My HD it getting pretty crappy I'm not sure if that could cause it though.

It happens randomly but when it does the screen will go black and my headphones will play a stutter noise and it'll just keep making that noise and then eventually I just press the power button on my PC til it turns off.

I've had this card for a good while and I'm using a 650w psu . I recently had to buy a new motherboard because my old one was doing funky stuff . You think it's the power supply ? I'm okay with investing in a much stronger psu

650W of a good quality power supply should be fine. I run my GTX570 on a 520W Antec power supply.

If the power supply is of questionable quality, this could be the culprit. Also keep track of your temperatures.
