How would I set up my home network. I have a Comcast modem/router and my Dlink DIR-655 wireless router. The Comcast router ip is 10.0.0.1 and the Dlink is 192.168.0.1. I can call Comcast and bridge the modem/router (I do not like comcasts wireless router) but I can not figure out the settings for the both of them. Anybody know how I would accomplish this? Thank you for any help you could give.

After they say it's bridged. Go to the setup tab in your router, click on manual set up, make sure the internet connection type is set to DHCP. If it isn't change it from the drop down menu and don't for get to save it.

Reboot it.

Go back in and look at the status tab and look at the WAN IP. It should now be a public IP address.

Click on the network settings on the left and you will see the LAN IP info then you can make changes if needed.

You should go to IPChicken.com or whatismyip.com to see what your public IP that matches the one in your router on the status tab.

Comcast will not allow you to make changes to their modem/router combo. If you do not have a public IP address on the status page then as you have detected, they are not bridging it. Comcast has an unusually large amount of unskilled staff making changes. Call them and ask them to change it, if they stand their ground then ask to talk to their supervison or elevate to a higher level of tech support. Be nice but firm... My conversation numerous times where the jackwad could help went like" Hey I appreciate you trying to help and your professionalism but I need a higher level of support......"

These changes you need take less than 5 minutes to change. They should be able to do this quickly and actually finding your modem then logging in takes longer.

Good Luck!!!

I have bridged the modem before. I have a 800 number thatgets me the right people to call. I had to unbridge because I couldn't figure the correct settings.nothing would connect to my Dlink router.
