Hi all,

I have been advised to upgrade my PSU so that I can so that i can put 2 GPUs in.Here is my setup and some choices of PSUs that I was looking at (I like the idea of modular, but if I can save a lot of money for the same performance then I may well go for a wired PSU, I don't leave my PC on 24/7 and I may overclock in the future):

PC:

(At the moment) Corsair TX 650W PSU - 80plus Bronze Certified
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Low Profile Vengeance Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155
(Will be SLI) Asus GTX670 NVIDIA DirectCU II Overclocked Graphics Card - 2GB
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Crucial 128GB M4 Slim 7mm SATA 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive
Fractal Design Define R4 (2x140mm Fans)

PSUs:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0045L4BNW/?tag=pcp0f-21 ]XFX P1-850S-NLB9 PRO850W Core Edition Power Supply [/url] - £79.99 Inc VAT

XFX XXX Edition 850w 80+ SILVER Modular PSU - £93.42 Inc VAT

*Edit above - removed a couple of choices, now down to 2!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the responses - do you think that the silver rating is worth the extra £20?

Other option:
If you add up the following:
1) Power Supply
2) Price to SELL current 670
3) Price to BUY another 670

You would then have most of the money to buy a single GTX780 (recommend EVGA GTX780 1020MHz boost with ACX cooler).

*The EVGA 780 I refer to gets about IDENTICAL performance to a 2x670 setup without the issues of SLI:
- less stutter
- far better performance than games with no SLI support
- quieter
- less heat

You'd also have a 3GB framebuffer versus 2GB for most 670 cards (still 2GB in SLI if using 2GB cards). And that may be a benefit in a year or two.

So that's my advice. Sell your 670, don't buy another Power Supply and invest in the EVGA GTX780 (1020MHz boost) with ACX cooler.

Hadn't really thought about that, may check out the GTX 780 and compare prices!

Do you know how much i could get from the GTX 670 - do you reckon sell on ebay?

E-Bay:
Just go there and see what used cards similar to yours are selling for. I would guess $200 or more for your Asus as it sells for $300 new.

So together that's $500.

The EVGA GTX780 I mentioned is $660.

Obviously I'm ignoring tax so we're looking at roughly $200 difference and the hassle of selling, but I think the BENEFITS I mentioned (smoother, 3GB future-proofing, quieter) are worth it.
