So, I am not a hardcore computer guy or gamer, but I know a decent amount. Enough to get me by. I do some video editing and use Premiere. I play games occasionally. Anyway, all that said, I had been keeping my eyes and ears open for a cheap deal on a graphics card upgrade. My gtx460 seemed fine, but I felt like it was the weaker link. I have 12gb ram, 256gb SSD, an i7 @2.8ghz I believe (I know it can be overclocked, but have no experience in that). Since I use Premiere, I felt like finding something that had the CUDA technology would be a good idea. Anyway, a friend sold me his Nvidia, GeForce GTX 570 for cheap. Brand new.

My question is how do I get the best usage out of these two cards. I understand that they cannot be connected via SLI. I'm not certain, but from what I understand a second 460 to run in SLI may have been faster, but the 460 doesn't have the CUDA. I have read some info online (yahoo answers, etc) about using one of the two cards for one process and the other card for another. Since I don't really understand what I'm looking for, it's hard to know what to search for. If anyone could lend a hand, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd take any suggestions as well. As far as I understand another perk to this second card is that I can now run 3 monitors. But that's another topic.

Anyway, after I physically install the 570, and the drivers, is there something I'll need to do to optimize the performance from the two cards?

Edit- Googling around now, trying to learn more about Physx and what role that plays.

The 460 does use CUDA. Frankly I would just pull the 460. You have the better 570 (similar to 480) now. Just pull the 460 and pass the deal onto someone else.

the best you can do with both card installed is run the 570 for the primary card and the 460 as the secondary. go into NVidia control panel and set the 460 to physics. Other then that you can not sli the two cards together. if you running 2 monitors you can run the second on off the 460 this will take the load off the 570 so the 570 will only power one monitor while gaming.

So if I wanted to run 3 monitors, but two would be less graphics heavy, I could run two off the 460 (which I do now) and then the gaming one off the 570.

If I had three monitors I would want to game in surround. not sure if you can do that with mismatched cards. but if your just wanting to game on 1 monitor while having the other 2 running then that would be the best. It will give the gamming monitor the full 570 and the other two will be happy running on the 460.
