Hi, I am not very computer-savvy so please don't laugh if this is an easy question to answer. I just bought my Lenovo U310 Touch ultrabook about 5 weeks ago, and up until now, it has been working fine. Lately, when I am loading pages, it can become unresponsive for up to a minute or so.

At first, I thought it was my internet browser and I was just opening too many pages (I have Windows 8 so I have been using Firefox Nightly). But upon opening Task Manager, my memory usage bounces around anywhere from 62% to almost 80%. My biggest memory users are McAfee On-Access Scanner Device (222.2 MB), Firefox Nightly (199.1 MB currently), and Service Host Local System. I do not use my laptop for gaming; I am just using it for web browsing, music, and word processing (I am a graduate student).

Is this normal to see memory this high? This laptop is supposedly 4GB memory and 500GB hard drive and I don't understand what I have done (if I've done anything at all) to make my memory that high; or if high memory is my problem at all. I just want the reassurance that my laptop doesn't die on me...as a student, it's very important to me that my laptop sticks around for awhile!

If I need to add anything else or run any sort of program so you know what's going on inside the laptop (again, sorry I am not very tech-savvy), please let me know, and thank you for helping me!

edit: forgot to mention, my actual CPU usage that task manager is telling me is about 8-10%

Solution
if memory usage is your issue, the only way to solve this is either by closing down any unwanted background app or by increasing the memory itself.

4gb now a days is a common place and really cannot keep up with an increasing number of programs getting optimized for more and more physical memory

Hi, thank you for replying! I will try those later -- I am at work right now and I have a class until 6pm. But to answer your question -- I usually use my laptop when I'm laying in bed, so the vents are not clear :( but the information I just provided was from when I had it sitting on my desk at work.
