What Razer Deathadder to get, standart, 2013 or Black Edition?

Solution
afaik they are pretty much the same mouse internally (black ed and original) but the black edition doesnt have the rubberized coating like the original does.

i'm partial to the rubberized coating even if its a dust magnet. i've used the newer naga hex which has a similar coating to the 2013 version and although its not bad i just do not like it as much.

afaik performance is good on the new mouse and the mouse shape has not changed so comfort should also be the same as the old mouse. it appears that they did add some sort of rubber to the side which i'm not sure i like or dislike. they also changed the scroll wheel. i loved the original since it have very pronounced notches and did not freewheel. i have no idea if the new scrollwheel...

I've heard that some people have had problems with the rubber grips at the side, for example it wearing off really quickly or if your hands are even a little bit wet/sweaty that the rubber grip makes it even worse and that it would be better off without the grip..? Also something about spinning issues that can be fixed though. May I ask how long have you been using the mouse?

get the standard or black edition, i wouldnt go with the 2013.

i've had my original deathadder for years and its still going strong. best mouse i've ever owned.

razer's synapse 2.0 program is a complete pain so i always suggest the old version. i prefer the old versions rubber coating as well. if you can make do with the crappy new driver and the different coating then i suppose you could go with the 2013 as its supposed to have a better sensor.

Why is the synapse 2.0 a pain? If it's about the spyware thing then I don't really care. So it seems you have used the original and the black edition, at least from those two which do you suggest? Then I could choose from that and the 2013 version.

i have the original deathadder (blue glowing scroll wheel) but the black editions is just about the same thing (just with no glowing).

the old versions use actual drivers. the new 2013 version requires the use of the synapse 2.0 program.

you need to create an account (for mouse drivers??!!?) and it attempts to connect to the internet every time you start your pc (for mouse drivers??!??!!). basically its a huge piece of bloatware that i refuse to ever let on my pc.

now you can disable the auto-connect to internet feature (or so i've heard) but i just find it silly that razer cannot just provide normal drivers like they have for years.

Damn, this make it even more harder to choose xD Honestly I have no problems with the auto-connect to internet feature, I always have internet so it doesn't really bother me. But besides that the actual mouse performance and comfort is good, it's just the software that's bothering you? The original and black has to have some difference besides the glowing light? I just basically want to eliminate at least one before deciding between the last two.

if the software doesnt bother you then i say you could go with any of them. all personal preference then.

I used to have a 3.5G Deathadder (same as the Black edition, just not glowy) which I killed in a modding attempt (tried to change the blue LED's for red, ended up breaking off a ribbon cable :( ) and as they were out of stock I replaced it with the 2013 edition which I still use.

Only major difference between them physically is the texture of the plastic and the side rubber grips. The 2013 has a rougher texture while the 3.5G is very smooth, it was weird moving between them but IMO it doesn't make that much of a difference. Rubber grips, I dont have sweaty hands so its not an issue for me, but I can see how it could be a dealbreaker for someone who is. Shape and size of the mice are identical, perfect for my hybrid palm-claw grip. The 3.5G scroll wheel definitely has more pronounced notches in it than the 2013, but they are still there, its not a free-wheel.

The Synapse driver is annoying to use admittedly, I also thought it was pretty ridiculous how I needed an account to use a mouse driver. Though once you put up with it for 10 minutes and everything's set and done updating, you can pretty much ignore it for ever after. Occasionally it will pop up asking to update itself, but its a mouse driver, so you can just close it :p
The 2013 has a pointlessly higher DPI sensor, which doesn't change anything as I still use the 1600 DPI setting I figured out on my old Deathadder.
