Hello guys,
I have a big dilemma here. I'm looking for a IPS monitor with good graphics and stuff to play my ps3 on. For me graphics are really important. The first question is: How higher the contrast ratio, how better the graphics. Is this true?

I have 2 options in buying a monitor.
1st option: Asus VS239HR IPS, which has response time of 5 ms and a contrast ratio of 80.000.000:1 http://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/VS239HR/#specifications

2nd option: LG 24EA53VQ-P, which also have 5 ms response time but 5.000.000:1 contrast ratio

My second question is: Which one is better for ps3, has better graphics and which one should I buy?

pls answer

There are a large variety of different IPS panel technologies used by various manufacturers including LG, Samsung, NEC, and Panasonic.

Here is a good overview of the various different IPS technologies

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/content/ips_technologies.htm

Even the older IPS panel technologies are vastly superior to any other TN based panel technology. I wouldn't trade in my u3011 for anything at all, except for maybe a u3014. The quality of the panel itself is going to be very high no matter what, so it's probably best to focus on aesthetic factors moreso than trivial differences in the marketing terms used for panel performance.

If you prefer a glossy finish, look for one that is glossy; if like me you're more inclined to matte, go with one that is matte. Look for bezel design, colour schemes, and even peripherals that suit your personal tastes.

You can safely ignore panels that are marketed as 10 bit. These are nice to have and may indicate a better panel but you'd need a professional graphics adapter (Quadro/FirePro) to use 10 bit colour depths. Gaming GPUs are limited to 8 bit colour depth, and most TN panels internally downsample to 6 bits colour depth. The consensus is that IPS panels create a whole new world of colours, and I concur completely.

Which one do you recommend? The asus or the LG? Which one has the best IPS technology? Which one has the best graphics and which one is the best suited for ps3? Look at all these points when deciding.

I'd go with Asus, but I doubt that it matters because I'm pretty sure that the panel itself is manufactured by LG on both models.
