Approximate Purchase Date: Within the next week

Budget Range: Approximately $1400 - $1500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Movies/Music, General Use

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Location: WA, USA

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Games will include just about everything but mainly the upcoming next-gen games.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Finally making the switch over from console gaming to PC gaming. Don't like the social media emphasis on new consoles, plus I need a new PC

After quite a bit of research these are the parts I am currently looking at buying. I'm just seeking advice and your thoughts on these parts and the build overall and any changes you might recommend.

The questions I have are whether the cooler will fit the mobo/case, psu wattage needed, and if it would be worth it to get the i7 4770K to future proof as much as possible.

OK to start off I assume you know there's no expansion going on here.....The Impact has garnered lotta accolades but it is a small MoBo for small cases with little expansion capability.

haven't used it myself yet, but hearing lotta good things about the HAF-XH

I'd strongly advise against the H60 air cooler .... for one, dozens of cheaper air coolers will cool your CPU much better and two, the ALC coolers depend on moving air with high rpm fans thru a tight radiator .... result whole lotta noise. If ya must go with ALC cooler, the Antec 620 cools about a degree more and is quieter. A...
get a h80i... the h60 is worse then most of the better air coolers available. it wasn't until the h100, or the h80i or h100i or h110 that corsair started to make closed loop coolers that performed better then top of the line air coolers.

Get yourself an SSD for your OS... 120gb or bigger (samsung 840 series ideally); else there will be little point to getting that flashy haswell cpu, and you might as well just save your money and get a core2duo or quad... cause your system will be massively bottlenecked by it's hard drive.

btw: i hope you use win8 before you spend money on it. most people find the experience jarring and confusing. Until you try it i wouldn't suggest you buy it.

Cooler will fit the case, yes. Don't bother with an i7 for gaming - very little marginal performance return for an extra $100. The MB is overkill, unless you plan on doing some intense overclocking, measuring voltage at 10 different points on the board, etc. If you're not an EE, I recommend saving money on the MB and putting it towards a 128GB SSD for boot drive. For your first build, you will get little value with the $229 ROG MB over something like the ASRock Z87E-ITX for $165. That $65 savings is 2/3 the cost of Samsung 840 EVO 128GB SSD.

And 650W is plenty for the PSU. You would be fine with 500-550, maybe step up to a Gold/Platinum for better efficiency. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151119

If ya must go with ALC cooler, the Antec 620 cools about a degree more and is quieter. A Hyper 212 will give ya comparable cooling for $20 less. Both are made by Asetak....neither Corsair nor Antec make any coolers....Corsair uses a stock Asetek design, Asetek makes the Antec Kuhler's to Antec's design.

If budget allows, I'd also recommend 'real water cooling" ....everything ya need is in this $150 kit.

The Caviar Black (148.5) gets toasted by the 30% faster 7200.14 (193.5) and it's $25 cheaper

Better yet, the new Seagate SSHD comes with a SSD inside and reportedly boots to Windows in 10 seconds.... and its still $5 cheaper than the black.

Id suggest any factory overclocked card other than the EVGA SC .... all the other manufacturer's factory OC's cards have great coolers, custom PCBs and a beefed up VRM. Only the EVGA SC series cards have historically used reference PCB and VRMs. EVGA FTW, EVGA Classified, Asus DCII, MSI Twin Frozr, MSI N series, Gigabyte Windforce are all fine ... the Gigabyte is $20 cheaper and is the fastest under $400 w. an 1137 Mhz core (same as MSI) .... SC is 1111MHz.

PSU is just fine

Oh yeah, and you don't need to spend 45% more for a WD Caviar Black. Get the SSD for speed, and a $99 WD Green for bulk storage. So, save $45 on your HDD and $65 on your MB and you've paid for the SSD, which will get you far more tangible performance improvement.

And Win8 is not a big deal IMO. I have 3 computers with Win8, but my gamer is on Win7. With Win8 the regular old Win7 desktop is always one click away, and in desktop mode it's mostly identical to 7, but it has a vastly improved task manager, better incremental backups, and some other good features. It does gets confusing when you start running ModernUI apps that take away all the regular window controls people have become accustomed to since, well, 1984.
