It could be overheating. Post your system specs and give us any other information that might be important. What happens when it goes black, does it come back, do you have to restart? How long has this been happening, when did you notice it start?

Download HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) and keep it open while you game. If you have two monitors this will work best. Keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temps from when you start to when it goes black. Report back here with your results.

My feeling is you have an overheating problem.

I'm thinking of getting a new GPU. Would that help?

You could but what do you currently have? If it has a warranty you could also RMA it.

I'd still run the temp test because without knowing if that's the problem, you might be doing something that unnecessary.

70C isn't bad but if it gets above 80C then you're having a real cooling issue. You can try maxing our your GPU and seeing what the temp is, download FurMark and do some testing: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

Also, make sure your computer in general is free of dust. Open it up and see if the fans are covered in dust, check the back of your case too. If it is, clean it out with a duster and compressed air.
