Hi Everyone,

I am running a relatively "high end" Windows 7 computer (with an i7 processor, 16 Gigs of DDR3 RAM, and a 250 Gig SSD) however for reasons that I have not yet been able to ascertain the free space on Drive C is diminishing by about 1.2 to 1.4 Gigs per minute (from boot up).

In an effort to fault find the issue I have turned off almost all startup programs, and monitored my task manager, however I cannot pin point the cause.

I have even considered the possibility that my original 120 Gig Corsair Force SSD was faulty, and because of this I replaced it with a 250 Gig Samsung 840 EVO SSD. During the replacement I simply cloned the contents of my old drive to the new drive using Samsung Migration software (and unfortunately the cause of the issue was also cloned!).

The following narrated screen capture video best describes the issue at hand -

Windows Hard Drive - Free space diminishing (High Def Available!)

If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this issue they will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Solution
Open Task Manager, select "Processes" tab, View menu->Select columns, check boxes "I/O writes" and "I/O write bytes", and see what's writing 1.4 GB/min.

So you found out that it's a software issue. Move any valuable data to a separate partition and re-install windows.

Hi Everyone,

I have fixed the issue by uninstall the PC Tools program called Registry Mechanic. Registry Mechanic appears to have been "over stimulating" the Tracerpt.exe process. After uninstalling Registry Mechanic and rebooting I had to manually delete the PC Tools folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\PC Tools). Doing this freed up about 100 Gigs, it seems that when the Registry Mechanic program is uninstalled the ridiculously huge, "whatever", file is not automatically deleted.

Thanks again for all of your help with this.

Kind Regards,

Davo
