Hi new here! :)

I'm planning to buy a new rig with a limited budget. For now the CPU and motherboard comes first in my list.

Here is what I'll be buying:
MSI 990FXA-GD65 but not the V2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130677&Tpk=990FXA-GD65
and a AMD Vishera FX-6300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286

In case you're wondering this is the only (low-cost) motherboard with a 990FX chipset that is available in my country (no V2) so this is mobo is my only option, and considering I have a very tight budget right now.

My question is this:
Can I update the BIOS even if I still haven't installed any Operating Systems? This is not the version 2 of this motherboard that supports the 2nd gen FX CPUs (Vishera) so I'm planning to just update the BIOS so it can read the CPU. So out of the box even though I haven't booted to an OS can I just update the BIOS without any OS installed or any HDDs attached to it.

I initially thought that I need to have a 1st gen FX CPU that the board actually reads just so I can install an OS and update the BIOS. I don't have a 1st gen CPU that leaves me to this question of mine.

Thanks! :))

Hi thanks for the reply!
The board was made for the 1st gen of FX CPUs. At MSI's CPU support list for the board it says it supports the FX-6300 but only with a BIOS update. So I'm not sure if it really supports Vishera out of the box.
So should I still go through with updating the BIOS with the 6300 installed on the board?
