Well I got an i5 4430 for £101 off ebay retail boxed copy. You can always look around, the i5 4440 will make games that are cpu bound gains lots of fps. The current fx cpus are very poor gaming cpus as they arebasically old gen cpus with 5 year old memory controller and the ipc is very poor. Hence why you should get an i5. It always makes me laugh when people think you save money with amd, lets see the fx6300 has no igpu is on 32nm vs intel cpu on 22nm is twice as slower per cores at same clock speed and takes generally 100w more power consumption which costs you more money in the long run and costs only like £40 more for much more.
To be honest these days an i5 4440 with a 7950 will get much higher fps then an fx6300 with 7970 as the fx6300 won't be able to push the graphics card as the cpu will be on the limit already.
Oh, I was typing, didn't see your answer, I would easily chose i5 over FX if I had the money, still think you stand on a good point which I fully agree with. For my needs I really think a 6300 will do just fine! Thanks anyways!
