Ive just bought a 2005 ViewSonic 32" LCD TV for the purpose of hooking up my lap top so I can watch tv and movies. I have hooked my laptop up using a blue VGA cable but no matter what I do 1/3 of the screen gets stretched out. I have adjusted the setting on both my laptop and tv and nothing seems to work.

This is a picture of what the screen looks like:

Have you confirmed that the TV is working correctly by hooking it up to your cable box? If so I would try using a different VGA cable and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Check your resolution settings - if the TV can only produce 720 resolution, and it is set for 1080, weird things can happen.

720p resolution is 1280×720
1080p resolution is 1920x1080

You did not mention what you are using.

Some HDTV use 1366 × 768
