I bought a Micro center computer, created the restore dics from it. The computer started to blue screen, and then finally just stop booting to windows (It would just loop the bios loading screen and the windows logo). I tried to run the repair disc and it takes a Long time to try and recover and place in emergency files & folders into a save folder. And finally i got an error that the backup Dell datasafe stop responding.

I want to just wipe everything Clean and use a windows 7 home prem OEM cd i have with the cd Key on the machine. Will that work? Or should i just try and recover it from the recover dics that i made. I know how to find drivers but i dont want to wipe it clean and then be stuck with a computer with no Windows program... FYI i dont believe in pirating.

Thanks.

Actually you are the confused one Retail is the one you have which means you bought it from a Retailer OEM means that the Manufacture included the software with your purchase of there equipment. OEM Software Definition and another link for you to read What is OEM Software? I hope this helps you better understand the terminology.

FYI if you bought a computer with Windows Installed on it that means you own a license so not sure why you mentioned pirating. Also as a side note it does not matter if you believe in it or not pirating does exist. Congrats on the back up cds working.

I personally do not pirate anything. Yes it may exist but not as badly as media and movie companies make it seem like. Secondly the CDs werent working at first, thats why i asked if my OEM copy would be acceptable.

OEM Copies only work if they came with that computer there are many different windows OEM versions. If it is a OEM from for example a dell machine and you have a Sony it most likely wont work but if it same company it has a higher chance of working but still not guaranteed.

I think your confusing OEM and Retail. I bought an OEM copy of win 7 home prem and custom build all my pc's...

I believe a retail version is the one that is brand specific. Because they have all the drivers for the company on the OS and all the bloatware.

I do not have retail. I bought my copy of windows from Microcenter... it is an OEM copy. The dell Machine i made recovery discs for... thirdly I was asking if i could use a retail win 7 os cd key with a oem win 7 os. You just repeated what i said in my previous post.
