3.5" SATA Hard Drive in a 5.25" SATA Optical Drive USB Enclosure?

As you may have figured out by the title, I was wondering whether a 3.5" hard Drive would work in a 5.25" enclosure such as the Vantec Nexstar DX.

In theory it should work, provided that I add some 3.5" to 5.25" brackets to the hard drive.

Is there any reason why this won't work? The reason I ask, is I can get a 5.25" SATA USB enclosure for less than half the price of a 3.5" SATA USB enclosure.

About you get one 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter (the UBS3.0 version). Then you can use it for all format HDD.

  2. I can get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827993013 for $20, which is a much better deal if it reads Hard Drives.

I had one of those adapter thingies you've shown, but the DC power supply blew up after the third time I used it, so I took it back for a refund.
