2 PC in different location

I have got 2 computer in different location with different IP addresses. Is it possible to connect PC1 from PC2 by typing \\172.168....? I need to run an application which is on PC1 in PC2. I know it is working when the two PC's are in the location.

the short answer is NO

would an app like logmein or Hamachi work for you?

Logmein is like remote desktop

Hamachi is like a VPN

you did not state that you had the two locations connected via a VPN.

have you tried using the computer name instate of the IP?

does the IP start with 172.168., or is it a private IP like 192.168. or 172.16.?

Yes, and it doesn't work when I am at the second location. However when I am the same location where the server is I am able to just do the following: \\172.16.10.13 and see the folders I have access to. I am in Qatar Doha, IP starts with 172.16.10. What I am trying to achieve is to be able to access the server through wireless connection from the second location by running the IP address of the server just like a remote connection. Paired in mind, each location has their own router. by the way, It is also not possible to connect the two routers with cables. The distance can't allowed.

172.16.10.xxx are private IP addresses.

These addresses are characterized as private because they are not globally delegated, meaning they are not allocated to any specific organization, and IP packets addressed by them cannot be transmitted onto the public Internet.

If you have a VPN between the two offices, you should be able to see the server on the network.

Thank you for your tutorial on Networking. I am a beginner in this business. However, could you please elaborate how to do it? I have installed on the client site (location2) a openvpn client software, and incoming vpn connection on the second PC(location1).

does the VPN connect?

do both locations use the same IP scheme?

If I remember right for a VPN to work the two locations need to use different IP schemes.

location1: 172.16.10.xxx
location2: 172.16.11.xxx
