Should I wait to get a video card?

Solution
It's looking like around a month from now. They mentioned their commitment to their overall gaming strategy several times which they always included the never settle game in, so i'm guessing it will come with a couple free games like a 7870 would.

How does that card compare to the one I posted in terms of performance?
Free 3 games is nice with the one I chose. :p

Are you sure they'll be releasing a card in that price range? I heard that the new Hawaii line is upwards of $600.

The new R9 280x is going to be at a $299 price point, i would hold off until some solid performance figures are released for it. I'm sure never settle will continue with the new Radeon's, so i wouldn't worry about that skewing the effective price.

Any ideas of a release date?
Do you think it will come with any free games? :)

Alright thanks! I'm in the process of buying all the parts for a new PC today. Do you think it's safe to say that the R9 280X would support an Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard?

It will work fine with any modern board.

They confirmed during the event that it's still GCN arcitecture, just with some optimizations And yes, like nvidia, they are doing some re-brands, the R9-280x is supposed to be something like a re-badged 7970 (but better), while the R9-290x is a tahiti xt with 2816 shaders
