Hi All,

I own a vintage Apple Macintosh Classic II and i have ran into a problem, whenever i seem to plug it in to the wall outlet and flick the switch it sometimes produces a sound like someone is welding inside it (The sound of sparks) and produces a smell the entire duration of it being on of rotten food crossed between gas. sometimes it even produces smoke, and also with the CRT that comes equipped with it, it has bars through the screen the whole time it is on. I need a response ASAP because i want to get this repaired ASAP because this thing holds significant value to me.

Yours Sincerely, Ben Seymour

Solution
I'm gong to figure the power supply is toasted. Old capacitors, probably. I wouldn't turn it on again until someone looks at it.

So would I take it to my local computer store and see what they could do with it and get them to replace the capacitors and PSU. Would it be free of charge as well. Also 2 of the 4 torx t15 screws were drilled through the centre to attempt to unscrew the case so it might be hard to take apart

Free? Doubtful. And your local computer store is maybe not the best place. No one there will have worked on something so old. You'll have to find a specialist.
