So. I found a gaming PC being sold locally for $550. here are the specs.
Case ~ NZXT Phantom 410 Gunmetal
Processor ~ Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo)
Cooler ~ Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Motherboard ~ ASRock Z77 Extreme6 LGA 1155
Graphics ~ EVGA GeForce GTX 480 Fermi
Hard Drive ~ Western Digital WD Black 500GB Sata 6.0Gb/s
Memory ~ 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series PC3-14900
Drive ~ Asus DVD-Writer
Operating System ~ Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit with OEM Key
Power Supply ~ PC Power and Cooling 750W Silencer MK II
NOTE: With Windows 7 and apparently very light use.

Or should I stick to my original plan buying all new parts, but worst components for a $650 build.

More about : buy 550 stick building

i like new parts, but that's not a bad machine (aside from the GPU)...i'd probably still go new, but i'm just a tad paranoid about hardware failures and being able to lay them on someone else instead of just eating them. If you know it's been treated well and the parts still have warranties it could be worth it.

Those parts are all pretty solid, although the graphics card is a little dated. If you could save up for a better graphics card, I'd say go for it.

I'd grab that used system, only things it is a little short on is HD space and that GPU is getting a little on the dated side :-/ the rest of the components will last if they have been well taken care of. :-) That 480 will play pretty much anything at 1080p at the moment. You might have to leave AA off, but it is still a decent card, got a little more life in it for sure lol

For the price, that's actually a pretty incredible deal.

You would want to make sure the OS isn't pirated and that he can give you the key so you can reinstall, and you'd probably want to upgrade the graphics card at some point, but that's a good setup.

I think I'll take this and In a year or so once the nvidia 800 series drops Ill pick up a 670 or something like that. Would probably get a SSD as it is the windows disk and load it onto that.

That's a really good deal. Also having a built in heater with the 480 could be an added bonus if you're in a colder climate.

For that price I would recommend something like this:

The build I listed does not include W7.

That build listed is not that bad though especially at the price.

I like intel/nvidia over AMD. I know that AMD gives you a better bang for your buck, but I have had bad experiences and know many people who have had bad experiences.

AMD has really stared getting temselves together, at least in the graphics department. I can understand why you would want to stay away from AMD cpus (though there is nothing wrong with them) but AMD gpus are very good.

Fair enough.

Then by all means you shouldn't have any trouble with that build.

Everyone has their preferences. I personally much prefer AMD gpu's over Nvidia.
