I'm going to upgrade my PC to a 3D PC in the next few months.
I'm getting the GTX 770, and the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 Kit.
My question is; Should I get the "ASUS VG278HE Black 27"" or something else?
I'd MUCH rather a bigger monitor but would like to keep it under $400 although price isn't *MUCH* (Keyword Much) of an issue.

Solution

No, not that monitor. That is not a 3D Vision monitor. It isn't even an active 3D monitor and doesn't support 120hz.

This would fit your desire: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236293

You probably will want to find some ICC profiles to fix the colors for this monitor, or perhaps just Google for help on adjusting the colors for that monitor.

I actually just updated the question to state that I'm getting that monitor and immediately saw your reply. Thank you for the quick and rather suiting reply. But, do you know of any 30" 3D monitors I'm willing to go a bit over $400

As far as I'm aware, 27" is the largest 3D monitor.

Honestly you should go 23" 24" 1080p instead of 27" 1080p have a look at the vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vt0CJcUi4w. I would recommend 1440p 27" but your looking for 3D Vision

Yeah. I might consider just getting a 1440p monitor. It'd save me a lot of money. right now I'm looking at a $1,278.35 upgrade. including the new monitor. how much was the 1440p one?

That's literally JUST in my price range. I'm wanting to spend $400. Sooooooo, I've decided, from your information, that I'm just going to get that monitor and the GTX 770 and that's going to take my price down to $923.87. MUCH better. Now I only have to wait three months... lol. Oh! And a new PSU. Thank you for your help!

Your welcome bro im glad to be here to help

I personally find 27" 1080p 3D Vision to be superior to 24" 1080p. The PPI may not be as good, but it is still plenty good and the extra real estate is great.

If you go with 1440p, you may get a little better PPI, but you will not get 3D, which is a totally different world. While everyone doesn't love it, if set up properly, I have never seen anyone not be blown away on a game that supports it well. You also gain 120hz.

It is a personal choice, but I'd go 3D Vision 2 any day.

Ive shown the video to why 27" 1080p isnt recommended and i stand by that. Some people dont mind how it looks but me personally im not going to recommend it and ima always say get a 23" 24" for 1080p and 27" 1440p

A lot of videos are going to say this or that to market their tech, but I've never seen anyone use a 27" 1080p monitor and want to go back to 24". They just don't, as the size is worth the loss of PPI. Would 1440p be better? Sure it would, but 3D is a totally new experience that may be worth more to a lot of people. Also, in 3D, you get two 1080p images per frame, and they kind of meld together into one image for the mind. In a way it feels like a higher resolution, and aliasing is far less distracting.

That blurry video didn't really help me, to be honest. That 1080p monitor seemed to be jittering, as if it had some technical issues as well.

Quoted from http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1661174/parts-guide-monitors.html

"Size Measured in Inches diagonally across the screen, this represents how physically large the screen is. Typically desktop monitors as of time of writing range between 21.5 and 27", with some HD or greater resolution monitors being 30"+.
Size does have an impact to image quality. If you have a 27" 1080p screen, the pixels are going to be physically larger and further spaced apart, and you end up with a lower PPI (Pixels per Inch) as compared to say a 1080p 24" screen. This is also coupled with your distance from the monitor, if you sit close to the monitor, a lower PPI is going to be obvious, if your further away chances are it will not be noticeable.
This is why many 27" and most 30"+ monitors use a HD+ resolution, to avoid this PPI issue. There is also some debate over whether the human eye can perceive increases in PPI beyond a certain point, which is why many are skeptical of 4K resolutions on desktop sized monitors."

Which is why i recommend 23" 24" at 1080p over 27"....I stand by that 100% and in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vt0CJcUi4w the 1080p 27" on the right everything looks bigger..Theres no way of covering that up even if you stand further back it still looks eh..As i said before if your going to a 27" go 1440p..

No where on that quote does it say that 27" 1080p is bad. It simply states that the larger the monitor, the lower the PPI. What is acceptable is not even mentioned.

1440p is better than 1080p, that isn't being questioned, though there are number of people who disliked the change, due to how Windows doesn't handle that resolution as nicely as 1080p.

From experience, and from all the polls done on the subject, those with 1080p 27" screens are happier than they were with 24" 1080p screens. Though I do not disagree that most are happier at 1440p, but then again, people are also happier with 120hz and many others are happy with 3D Vision.

To clarify. 1080p at 27" is good. 1440p is better, but so is 120hz and 3D Vision.

You just have to pick which direction to go.

I still disagree man no matter how you slice it/dice it and try to make 1080p 27" look good when it kinda doesnt and ive shown people that was about to get 27" 1080ps and quickly they seen the difference between the 2. As for me as a buyer i want the best of the best and at 1080p 23" 24" is the way to go. 27" things starts to change and and im not about to mislead anyone saying otherwise

I can't even see anything worthwhile with that video. It is shaky, it is blurry. You have to see it in person to even have a clue. The only two things I can see from the video is 1) the TN display you have is jittery, but that could be an issue with the video, and the TN panel is using a brighter setting. I can't even tell a different in resolution because the camera is too unsteady and blurry.

My point isn't 1440p vs 1080 at 27", it is that 27" 1080p is better than 24" 1080p to every person I've ever seen post on the subject with both.

If he wants 1440p, fine, if he wants 3D Vision and that is good too. If you convince him that he is wrong to get 27" 1080p, that is wrong of you unless he goes to a store to compare for himself.

Go back to the video and start at 0:59 do you see how toms site is more stretched out on the 1080p monitor compared to the 1440p if you cant see that bro lol then idk what to tell you..

Im not a monitor master on here but i do know that im pretty much right on this and if the op does more re-search on forums he will find that more people saying exactly what im saying and ive been in the same spot as him before i bought my 27" 1440p i was looking at a 1080p 120hz 27" but after i did some reading and saw the vid everything made sense and decided to a different direction...

I mean some people like that but to me it kinda looks funny but quality wise im sure you will get a better image from a 23" 1080p vs a 27" 1080p i know that for a fact

If by quality, you mean PPI. 27" 1440p screens have better PPI than 30" 1440p screens too, but I'd rather have a 30". Size is also a nice quality too.
