Title. Anyone know how this could possibly happen? I'm thinking the sensor info must be off.

The machine in question is an old HP xw4400 (Core 2 Duo 2x2.4GHz, 4GB of RAM) with a GeForce GTS 250. It should (and previously has) run League of Legends effortlessly, but I get 30fps with severe staggering even on the lowest possible graphics settings. Even in regular desktop use there are staggers. This is what originally made me check if it's overheating.

GPU is at around 60°C on idle. Going to do a stress test now. Is it really possible for the GPU to radiate enough heat to produce those high motherboard temps?

your motherboard is heating up like hell.

first off.....set a custom fan curve for your gpu. your gpu fan should spin at 100% under full load and at that temp.

secondly....thoroughly clean your pc and cabinet fans for any dust so as to improve air flow.

also check to see if you have the latest drivers for your card in the nvidia website.

keeping your pc cool should help you get the performance you want.

Setting the fan to a flat 100%, I get a max temp of 57°C on the GPU while playing League of Legends, 40-something on idle.Motherboard temp still goes up to the high 70s. Staggering in game is reduced somewhat, frame rate is slightly increased (by about 5). Occasional staggering in Windows and general lagginess still happens.

Interestingly, the performance difference between minimum and high graphics settings in lol is only about 5-10fps.

It seems like maximing out the fan masked the issue somewhat, but there's a deeper problem.
