Gpu Fan Speed dropping unexpectedly.

I have msi afterburner and a 560ti. Ever time I idle the fan speed will be at it's highest. The second I open chrome or do anything I audible and on msi afterburner see the fan speeds drop. Does anyone know why this is happening?

It's only dropping by like 200 rpms but it doesnt make sense that the more load the less fan speed. The second i close all apps the fan speed increases. I have it set manually to 65%

I recently updated to the latest verison of msi afterburner and seems I'm having similar issues as you.

I have 550 ti card when I start msi and set my fan speed to around 71% 33?? Rpm. Then start my game when game loads my fan speed will drop to around 3000 rpm.

Not sure if this is msi related or psu I am going to try investigate the issue.

This wasn't happening till update of msi afterburner.

Did you guys ever resolve the issue? I seem to be having the same problem, though I don't know if it's MSI Afterburner's fault. Anyway, my RPM's drop under use as well, only not by as much as yours. My fans are at 20% and usually idle at around the mid 990's, sometimes ramps up to the low 1000's but then drops back down to the 990's again. But once I load up a game, it drops to the 960's-970's, will sometimes ramp up to the 980's but then drop back down to the 970's. WHY?!?!

However, the temperatures seem okay. I ran Heaven Benchmark for about 45 minutes and it never went over 66C. I just don't understand why the fans are acting so screwy.

Btw I own an ASUS R9 280x (Radeon HD7970)
