I dont really know much about computers and what not, but now that the specs are released which is better? Is the 7990 still significantly faster? Which one you guys recommend?

Solution

7990 is dual gpu card. there are two 7970 core on 7990 PCB. so in other words 7990 is 7970CF in a single PCB. it is the same as nvidia 690 where they put two 680 core on a single pcb.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Another question though haha. Will most games support CF like AAA titles?

Ok thanks but will it be able to run all games on ultra settings? Im guessing it should since it is suppose to be around the titans speed or faster apparently.

not all but maybe most of it. there will be always some exception to some games where even best gpu have to struggle. for example crysis 3. next year maybe it will be the witcher 3. also most triple A will get multi gpu support

personally i don't mind going for multi gpu. but for some people might not like the issues that comes with multi gpu configuration. if you're the type that expect everything should work out right of the box then multi gpu config might not for you. also when using CF or SLI it is best not to expect for nvidia or amd to have their driver ready for CF or SLI on day one of game launch.

From the RUMORS I've heard it sounds like a single R9 290X can run Tomb Raider at 5760x1080 on ultra settings at 60FPS.

A single 290 can run a lot of the top titles on a 4k display at 60FPS.
They also had crossfired 290's and ran three 4k Displays in eyefinity (11520 × 2160).

So the 290 sounds like a pretty good choice (at least with the current games that are out there).

Of course remember, these are rumors. I myself am going to wait until they actually have some user reviews and comparisons.

Rumors wont count!! I mean can we rely on some bywords!? r9-290 is somewhere between 7970 and 7990 and r9-290x is 7990 with a little augmentation...

go with the R9-290x bro ... i will be getting one when it gets on the market ..i did read alots of reviews about the 7990 and alots people says that its still having those issues ... im building a new PC in couple days and i was willing to buy the 7990 too cause i saw it beats everything in gaming but i was not sure about the issues it has and AMD still didnt fixed every issue too .... so as i suggest u to get the new R9-290X and it should be same speeds in gaming as the 7990 or the GTX titan or GTX 690 ... maybe a little less maybe a little higher in couple games but for now i would go with the AMD new top of the line cards 290X ..its realy powerfull and it has 4GB and for most and maybe all games wont need more than 3GB so it should be realy more than enough to max out any game one ultra high without a single problem .... and also the choice is up to u man ..

So far the R9 only rumored to perform aroumd titan (or a bit faster) than titan. If you want a single card that as fast as gtx690 or 7990 (with sli or cf working properly) that would be next gen where both gpu from amd and nvidia are buold based on TSMC 20nm process node which is according to the latest news will only be ready on second half of next year. There are leak performance of R9 compared to titan at techpower up.

Yah i made up my mind. Im going to be buying the R9 290x but do you think i should wait for when the non reference cards come out. Or do you think the radeon 290x will be sufficient enough?

and probably quieter. I would wait before benchmarks are revealed before going this way though, amd have a bad track record with multi-gpu setups.
