Question about my intel dh77eb

I'm having a problem with my motherboard or maybe the gpu. But more likely the mobo.

Here's the situation. I bought my friends gpu which is an HIS HD 7850 2bg ddr-5 256-bit.

My current specs are as follows:

Intel DH77EB
intel core I5 3570
8gb ripjaw
Radeon HD 6670 1gb ddr3
Cougar 500watts psu

Now everything works fine with 2 of my hard disk and so on but when I plug in the newly acquired gpu it doesnt boot up. Black screen, keyboard and mouse doesnt power on, but the fan spins CPU, GPU, case fans but it doesnt boot.

My MOBO right now only has 4pins by the mosfets (which I think is the problem why it doesnt boot cause it lacks power) also the newly acquired GPU only has 6pins rather than the ordinary 7850 that has 6+6 pin.

Now I tried a different GPU it might have been a GTX 470 or 480 which eats more power and it ran on my computer now this GPU has a 6+6 pin.

My real question here is that could it be a problem that the mobo or the gpu lacks power when I insert it cause 1 my mobo only has 4pin rather than the other h77 that has 8 pin or 2 my gpu lacks power from the mobo cause it only has 4 pin and the gpu only has 6pin.

Solution
the "4 pins by the mosfet" that you mention is the 12V ATX power connector that provides power to the cpu only. power to the rest of the main board is provided by the 24pin atx cable (located on the right hand corner of the board)

also you don't need to worry about the gpu having just one 6pin pci-e power connector instead of two. the card must be designed to operate in that way, and any ways a 6 pin pci-e power is good for about 125-150W

the problem that you are facing must be due to compatibility issues. try updating the bios and see if that works.

Thank you for replying sir!

For the 4 pins it was just a hypothesis of mine, wasn't really sure if that is one of the causes or so.

For the bios I thought of that one two, but I haven't practiced that one in anyway. ( The reason is that I dont own a legit os and I'm scared that it may ruin something or so) But if it wont can you please enlighten me on how to do so. I would really appreciate the help :)

bios update has got nothing to do with the os, so you do not need to worry at all.

go to:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22825&ProdId=3437&lang=eng&OSVersion=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09%09%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09&DownloadType=BIOS

download the necessary bios (.exe file)depending on your os.....(the 3rd or the 4th one)

close all the applications before you start the installation process, your pc will restart/update the bios and you are done.

just remember to use the gtx 470/480 whatever the case may be and later switch to the hd7850

all the best

Thank you so far for your help. Though this is gonna be the first time that I'm gonna update a bios in my life I need to know which one.

I read the instructions and I'm using win7 64bit so I'm gonna download the one with the winpe64? or the first one? I dont really know what to pick.

Alright, I have tried to update the bios by clicking the icon that I've downloaded as you said.

I've read the agreement and instructions until it said it will restart the pc.

(But before doing so I checked my dxdiag and checked the BIOS it said Default System BIOS)

It restarted and it said that there was a problem about the installation

(But the instructions say. It may say there was a problem even after the installation but it was successful)

It may or it may have been but after I checked the dxdiag it still said Default System BIOS.

Now I tried to install the 7850 still no go. Blank screen everything spins but just dead or not dead but it doesnt boot.

Now the question is, did it not install the bios or so?

I'm downloading the .bio file now can you please tell me what to do.

BTW - I have an IDM on my system and when I downloaded the .bio file it downloaded via google chrome instead of the IDM not like the ones earlier. Is it fine? I cancelled it as of the moment until I get a reply.

This is getting kinda frustrating. I followed what the manual and the video said.

Download the file needed - (.bio) - copy to usb - put usb at a port ( I used the 3.0 ) - power off computer - remove jumper - turn on computer ( while on this part it did turn on and turn off by itself no video so I gave it 10mins ) - restarted checked if the bios was update via f2 on start up but still no go.

I'm going to try the 2.0 ports of the usb might have been my mistake on not doing so, but while I'm trying to take a quick break can you tell me what is it that I've done wrong or is there something wrong?
