Computer randomly restarting after motherboard switch

Lets hope I can keep this short

I replaced a PVM900M motherboard with an ASROCK G31M-GS motherboard as the CPU was not compatible with former (wolfdale).

After the switch, i installed windows 8 and it seemed to work fine until constant restarts were seen. My CPU fan was horrible hence I changed it for a better one with thermal paste and all.

Then the set up some settings in the BIOS (by guessing) and after 1 or 2 restarts (auto), it became stable.

However now, it seems to have started again and I do not know the reason.
I tried to update the BIOS but it seems I have the latest one (1.9) but I re-flashed it anyway.

Now when i set the BIOS to default, it restarts more often but with some tweaking, restarts are much less to around 2-4 times a day.
I do not know the reason as it seems that the hardware IS compatible or else such would not occur.

When the PC was stable, I used to play high demanding games such as AC3 and Batman Arkham. Now using something as simple as Notepad++ may cause a restart. Even on idle, it restarts.

My CPU temps at idle do not go above 40c and GPU above 50c.

If there are any other specs you require, please mention (with appropriate software if possible),

Thank you very much

Solution
I would guess the chipset drivers. Install all the latest drivers from the asrock web site and see if that helps. You will have to choose the latest for Win7 because like I said there do not seem to be any for Win8 with your MB.

I did a windows 8 install as I changed hard disks too.
Which drivers do you suggest is causing the issues so that I can target them.

Note that the PC also restarts sometimes at BIOS.
In other words, if it restarts once (sometimes) it restarts again and again on the post or even BIOS

PROGRESS
Okay I cannot install windows 7 as it reboots from that point.

I tried removing one ram stick and still restarts.

However, after removing the GPU, It seems to have stopped restarting (so far). Is it possible that I do not have enough power from the PSU for the entire machine?

Look at the specs in the TP and my PSU is just 400W

Is that enough?

however i am installing windows 7 and it restarted.

it seems the issue has stopped once again. I installed the inf drivers and not issues so far. if you note their bios update, it says there was a fix for win 8 shutdown which would mean they do accept that u can use it with their MB.

thanks for the great help spooky.
