Brand New system I personally put together has Hard Freeze issues on some games. The system is not overheating and isn't under powered. After playing some Games on high graphics system will freeze and have to be reset manually.

System Specs

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP LGA 1155

PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750M 750W

CPU: Intel Core i5-3350P Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.3GHz Turbo)

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660

RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3

Physical Memory: 1 SSD 100 gigabyte drive and 1 Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM

Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner

Now I run some Hardware monitoring systems off and on to check up on the comp and the temp inside stays roughly around 35 degrees Celsius to 45 degrees Celsius when playing games like Fallout 3 on Max settings with no problems. Other times i will play things like SecondLife, Dawn of War 2, and Star Wars the Old Republic the system will hard freeze and need to be manually restarted.

I updated all the drivers, the bios, and the games. I have run them in compatibility modes for 7 and XP. I let them run with all 4 cores, 2 cores, and even 1 core through the task manager affinity settings. I have also ran them as administrator under all these conditions and combinations there of.

Nothing has solved this problem. I can't go to windows 7 because i don't have a copy of it.

It's not the GPU the card is only registering a 40 degrees Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit temp when the system freezes.

I think it maybe a problem with this particular graphics card and processing particle effects. I ran a few benchmarks and whenever i ran one that was testing particle effects the load would be near 100% and the temp would only be about 53 degrees then it would hard freeze. I ran fallout 3 temp reached 58 degrees never crashed.

So my question is is it a problem with the geforce gtx 660 and rendering particles or windows 8 and rendering particles?
