I wasnt sure what info would be helpful but posted most of it.

Anyways, When i first got the laptop a a half year ago, I had 12gb ram installed. Now it only shows 4gb ram installed.

I was wondering what I can do or what the possible problem is?

I have the latest bios. Any possibility that I need to change the bios settings?

Thank you! :)

This is not an uncommon problem, it happens. i looked at other posts on this website and plenty of others have the same problem but with different systems. Please, I know i have 12gb installed, I know it used to show I had 12gb installed, and now it shows 4gb.

Thank you RDKells for the suggestion.

I wish my Bios had that option.... I dont understand because my bios doesnt have a diagnosis tab to be able to perform that.

FOR CLARIFICATION: as i have mentioned, everywhere on my computer (msinfo32, bios, etc) says i have 4gb installed. This is a known, and have stated this in my original post.

The reiterate, My question is, when i first got the laptop, I bought it for 12gb, when I received the computer I looked through the specs on msinfo32 etc... and it stated I did indeed have 12gb AND A FEW MONTHS LATER, it now states I have 4gb.

My question is not if i have 4gb installed etc.... my question is why did I have 12gb installed, I saw it had 12gb installed, and now it shows 4gb installed?

During the time period from when it went from 12gb installed to 4gb installed.... I did update my bios to a newer version.

I was wondering if there is possibly anything from the bios that could have caused this, or anything else. Before mentioning anything about opening up my laptop to check the connections etc.... is there anything else that can be done?

It really sucks too that this updated bios from HP doesnt have that diagnosis option mentioned in the post from RDkells, i looked through the bios setup screen and actually there really isnt much I can do from the setup much at all :(

Thanks!

Hp envy Dv-6!
Can you be more clear and specific with your model no? HP ENVY DV-6 has several models. Unless you can tell your complete model no, it won't be possible to rectify the issue in proper manner. Since each model of HP ENVY DV-6 supports variety in maximum supported RAM from 8GM to 16GB, you must be specific to the model no.

Hey mate, did you have any joy with getting this sorted? I also have 12gig installed but it only shows 4gig? This is also really bizarre because I have 2x6gig memory cards in? I haven't tried to pull them out and put them in again however I will soon. Bit different to your story but I have just upgrade to 64 bit OS as I went 32bit when I built it all those years ago. Just wondered if you got it sorted, was it BIOS issues?
