So, after building a new computer using a P8Z77-V LX mobo and i5-3570k and relying on the intel graphics from the processor, we're having trouble playing smooth video content to a 40" tv screen. Playing a 1080p file using VLC or Windows Media Player results in slightly laggy, grainy content - where it didn't before on a 4 year old laptop. The resolution doesn't seem to match what it was before.

My first thought was to update the bios, and looking through the Asus website showed some VGA updates that may help. Any thoughts? (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_LX/#support_Download_30)

Any help is appreciated!

Solution
go to intel web page and use there drive scan to update to the newest intel hd chipset drivers. after you install the driver from asus.
Agree try updating the Video drivers. Also I have found that mpc-hc seems to work much better for me than VLC for some reason. You might give that a shot. http://mpc-hc.org/ . All of the codec you would need for most all video and audio is built into mpc-hc so there is no need to install anything other than the player and it will handle most every video codec from .mp4 to .mkv with no problem.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's not my computer, so I'll need to wait until the guy gets off work so I can try these things. Will update once I update the mobo drivers and intel ones too.

We got the same result with mpc-hc, so we'll wait and see what happens after the above.

So, for whatever reason the intel scanning tool wouldn't work for us. BUT, we went to windows update and got the intel drivers that way. That solved the issue. Thanks!!
