When using programs such as steam or skype to talk to other people, my mic sounds choppy and makes robotic sounds.

A recording I made to show how bad it gets. The weird part about it is if I were to use sound recorder in my computer, it sounds completely fine no matter how long I record. Anyone know what is wrong with my microphone?
