Hi member,
i have WD 640GB hard drives that currently running Hard Disk sentinel read+write test and only have 8 bad sectors yet,
my question is:
1. Can i use this harddrives again for storing files only, backup files(not running OS, but still internal harddrives)?
2. Do i need WD lifeguard to full format, or simply doing full format from windows?
3. Is it save to copy bad sectors files? (i read here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/298975-32-copying-files-sectors that u cant copy bad sectors file )
thanks in advances

Solution

1, no, no, they wont - the bad sector is on the plate itself, not in the data :D
2, yes, you can not - the bad sector will be marked as "not to use" and any program will skip them :D
3, only if it's not marked as bad - then your system would try to read over and over and then desperately shut down (kinda like a "where the heck is my data" rage quit) :D

well, it's like the paper analogy - when you know there is a hole in it, you wont write anything there :D and then you won't expect that there is anything written too :D

1, yes, no problems... but I wouldn't put there any files that I can not to lose
/good for movies, music, etc... bad for game saves, documents, etc.../

2, well, you might do a low level format... or run chkdsk and it will mark those bad sectors so they are not used in the future...

3, well... imagine you have a page full of text /single space, 9px font size/. Now punch 3-4 dime sized holes into it... And now get someone to read it :D
About the same will happen to your computer - it can try, it may succeed /depending on the program you use/, but mostly it will fail and crash :D

so i can use it? not important file, mostly movies,etc..
SMART test at first, before running read+write test(that detect 8 bad sectors currently) on hard disk sentinel only give warning(yellow color on current pending sectors), is it normal?
