For my proposed system, is the NZXT Phantom 640 FT Case overkill?

I'm in the process of slowly upgrading an old computer of mine, and I need to sort out the case, cooling and graphics card. Before I sort the graphic card, I need to sort out the cooling, and since my current case has crap all fan ports I will need a new case.

I'm tossing up between the NZXT Phantom 630 ($210) and the BitFenix Shinobi Mid Tower ($95) (AU Prices)

My current system:
XFX 6850 (which I sometimes OC)
Intel i5 4570
8gb 1666MhZ RAM
650W Corsair HX PSU
Gigabyte mATX mobo

I am not planning to upgrade the motherboard, as I'm not planning to SLI Graphics cards and using a lot of peripherals.

But what I am planning to upgrade is the graphics card. I will either be getting GTX 770, 670, 760 or the 7970 3GB. (Probably Gigabyte for the nvidia cards).

If I end up getting a slightly cheaper one (760 for example), I will probably overclock. For the others, I may overclock a tiiiiny bit, but I think I'd be alright with not doing so.

As for fans, I have x1 140mm BitFenix fan and x1 120mm BitFenix fan ready to be plonked into a case wherever is best.

As for where the case is placed, I think it'll have good breathing space. It's out in the open, with no roofing, nothing infront of it, and its got about 6 inches of space on the left and right side. (Can be adjusted)

So really, for the case, my only issue is cooling. I just want to know if it would be better for my wallet to go with the cheaper Shinobi, while providing adequate cooling.

Thanks

Yes, the NZXT case is huge and meant for custom water loop systems. It will be too big your your needs. a Mid tower will suit your perfectly have a look at the phantom 410.

All you need for cooling is front intake fans, top exhaust fans, and a rear exhaust fan. thats all. More fans does not mean cooler PC. it can mes sup airflow and cause the system to actually run hot.

Hi, thank you for a very helpful answer. I have a few small questions although.

1. On the PLE product page for the shinobi, under cooling system, it says this:

Front : 120 mm fan x 1 / intake / 2 x 120 mm fan supported ¦ Rear : 120 mm fan x 1 / exhaust / 1 x 92 mm fan supported ¦ Side : 120 mm fan mount x 1 ¦ Top : 120/140 mm fan mount x 2 ¦ Bottom : 120 mm fan mount x 1

To be honest, this layout sorta confuses me. I've never really dealt with cooling before. I assume that list at the top explains what fans come with it. So including my 120mm and 140mm fan, and the ones included in the case, will that be enough for me? Or do i need 1 or 2 more fans? Which ones?

2. Sorta irrelevant but I was just wondering if you can move optical drives out of cases and put them into a new one. Its an asustek one.

Thanks
