Hello everyone:)
Last week, I bought an Alienware X51 R2 Desktop computer from Dell. With the 3 year warranty, it cost me $2000 which I paid in full at the time of purchase.
On the third day of me having the computer, while playing a game (no other programs open but skype and a firefox window), long story short, the graphics card went bad on me (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670). Screen blinking, blue screen of death, the whole works. After 7 hours altogether on the phone with Dell and them connecting to my computer, they finally decided I needed a replacement graphics card (surprise surprise).
They sent a tech out to my home to replace the card. He came the other night to replace it and I must say I was in shock when he pulled out a graphics card (same kind I had), with a sticker on it that said "refurbished" on it.
3 day old computer, just paid them in full $2000, and they sent me a refurbished replacement part?! I wasn't happy so I called Dell the next day and complained. The Dell tech on the phone told me "Mam, I could go on for three hours about what refurbished really means, but it does not mean you are getting a used graphics card, Dell, no matter if it's new or refurbished, when we replace a part, always put refurbished on the part as it is a replacement".
For some reason, I feel like the dumb woman that just got had at the mechanics and bought a new engine when she needed just an oil change.
Can anyone tell me if I've just been had with the info I was given about what refurbished means? Also, am I right in being upset about paying $2000 and having a part go bad after THREE DAYS and getting send a refurbished replacement part?
I really want to call them back again but would like to be a little more educated on the subject and also get some opinions about if I am right for being upset at this situation.
I thank you so much for all your help ahead of time everyone:)

I have worked in retail management for years, and as far as "refurbished", it was not new. The exception would be a discontinued product being marked into a "refurbished" category. The one they took from your computer will most likely be "fixed" and put in someone's computer when theirs breaks.

I am against buying an Alienware/Dell. For the $2000 you spent you could have built a way better computer. Dell is known for doing stuff like you mentioned. I have a couple friends who purchased Alienware computers and they had nothing but problems. If you are concerned about breaking something or not being able to do it yourself, don't be. You can build one. There are many videos and guides on how to do it. If you decide to and need help you...

Thank you so much Mike:) I will take you up on your offer for help :p I really appreciate that! I do know I could've built, most likely, a better computer for a better price :( My issue is that I know nothing about fixing computers so I always buy one from a large company because I need that warranty where they will come fix the computer if needed. Videos, etc., when you know hardly anything about fixing computers, looks greek=/

Honestly, he just replaced it last night and I haven't really tested it out gaming wise secondary to working. When it went bad, it wouldn't even boot up and the screen would just flash and give me the BSOD so it's definitely not doing that anymore and is starting up fine.

And if it is in fact a refurbished / fixed card, it is also a tested card and will not break again. Sending the technician again for another replacement is way too expensive to take the risk and save a $ on a bad card.

The card is a GTX 670. This was released a year and a half ago. You don't know how much wear and tear the card has.

"wear and tear" on a graphics card / silicon device? What are you talking about?
