RAID 0 with 4x, 3x or 2x WD Red HDD?

Hello,

I'm building a new computer and I will use a SSD for operating system and another volume with WD Red drives on RAID 0 for the files.

Since I'll make backpus on a 4TB external USB 3.0 HDD, I'm choosing the RAID 0 to get more performance.

Note: My motherboard supports up to 4 HDDs in SATA III 6 Gbps (Asus Rampage IV Extreme).

My questions are:

1 - Doing RAID 0 with 4 HDDs worth? Or the gain with 4x HDDs is very small in relation to use 3 or 2 HDDs?

2 - With 4 WD Red on RAID 0, can I get close to the transfer rate of the SSDs, that are around 400 MB/s?

3 - Has anyone done tests with 2, 3 and 4 HDDs on RAID 0?

4 - Is the WD Red the best for RAID 0 in cost-benefit?

5 - I heard that the WD Blue is better than WD Red because it uses a single platter, and so it's faster and cheaper. But WD don't recommend this HDD for RAID on their website. What do you think? Should I buy Red WD that is recommended for RAID by Western Digital or get the WD Blue?

Thank you!

Solution
just use 2 if you plan on using raid0. 4 drives in raid zero is a disaster waiting to happen. remember if one drive goes you loose everything

but ive been running my raid 0 on my barracudas for a while with no problems

but your better off using raid 10 which combines speed and data loss prevention

or even a small ssd ( still will be still faster than 4x raid 0 most likely) for the os and programs and raid 0 for your games etc on the other drives
