Building a new PC

Case: Thermaltake a41
Power supply: 750 w
CPU: ?
Motherboard: ?
RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 1866
GPU: Radeon 6990

Thinking about getting an i5 or i7 ivy processor, but i am not sure which to purchase, and which motherboard to go with.

I was initially thinking the I7 for faster computing speeds, plus nice gaming. Paired with the asrock extreme 4 mobo. is this motherboard sufficient for the I7?
Or shouold i just go with the I5 and get the asrock extreme4.

Thanks!

Yeah, if you're never planning to overclock, you can save a couple dollars and go with the non-K version.

I did this with my build and went with the 4570, saving an additional $40 less than the 4670 for almost the same performance (200mhz slower clocks).

So far I haven't been able to challenge this CPU with anything. These i5's fly through just about any task and they run pretty much any game without breaking a sweat. :D

The only time you'll benefit from the i7 (which is a hyper threaded i5) is in heavily threaded applications like video editing/compiling etc.

What are your main uses for this machine?

The ASRock Extreme 4 mobo is an excellent choice for either CPU. If you're mainly going to be gaming, go with the i5-4670k. Also, if you plan on over clocking at all, you'll want to add an aftermarket CPU cooler like the Hyper 212 evo or similar.

Thanks for the response!

Yes I plan on using it mainly for gaming,
I keep reading the I5-4670 is more than sufficient for gaming, i just figured for an extra 50$ I will extend the life of my processor a bit and give myself a little more brain power on the comp.

Great! Thanks for your time. I am still currently a n00b a building computers, but i would like to learn more about it. I would also like to learn about overclocking and apply it to my machine in the future.
Thanks for saving me 50$! I will be purchasing this weekend, and my case arrives on Tuesday!!

No problem. Glad I could help. :)

If you are planning to overclock some time down the road, you may want to go with a k-version now, rather than spend another $200+ later on. Just something to think about. ;)
