I know what all the benchmarks say, im curious as to what people prefer or have tried out. I have a single gtx 660 right now and it pretty much holds its own. I want to go bigger with my set up past 1080p while still being cost effective. My psu will handle the two 660's but not the two 7950's. Im not sure if sli will help going to a higher resolution or not. I know the 7900 series will help with that. I like to play all the newer games at the highest settings possible that allow me 60fps. What would better suit future proofing everything while still being cost effective and getting 60fps?
Also another question what causes random frame rate drops in games? I never bothered to think about it until now. Is it just slow loading or the gfx card lagging. I have a i5 2500k, corsair vengeance 2x4gb ram 1600mhz ram, wd 1tb black, a ocz 700w modstream psu, gigabyte gtx 660 2gb. While playing games such as bioshock infinite or borderlands 2 at higher settings sometimes my frame rates drop bellow 60fps after most of the game playing at 60fps, it usually drops to 30fps for a short time then back up to 60fps. I think thats due to v-sync going down to 30fps. But what causes the random drop in frame rates? Is v-sync causing to to go down to 30fps if it goes below a certain threshold? Looking forward to hear from people, thanks.
