So I have just built myself a PC, and I was told that I had to format my HDD before I started using it. However, when I go to the disc management to format it, I only get the option to change the HDD into a GPT or Dynamic disc. Is this correct, and if so, what should I take? My HDD is a Western Digital 1TB if that matters, and the PC will mainly be used as a gaming PC. I also have my OS saved on an SSD.

GPT is required for drive partitions greater than 2.19 GB in size. If it is MBR based the only "change" option would be GPT. But you don't need to "change".

Your click on the square box on the left that says like Disk 1 or Disk 0 ect. You want to click on the RIGHT side of that box. Most likely has a big black bar running across the top of it or a blue bar. A black bar is saying there is no partition there. A blue bar or green bar means that it is partitioned (You only see green bars when you create more than 3 partitions) you want to right click on that part and then it will give the option to either "Create a partition" if its black or "Format" if its blue. If its black create a partition. if you just want one big partition and its a 2TB drive or less just select MBR (Since 2TB drives are really 1.81 formatted. Its only when the formatted size is greater that 2.0TB that you need GPT) then once its made it will ask if you want to format and give drive letter in the create partition wizard. If it doesn't then just go back and right click on it after the partition is made and format it.
Don't close the disk manager until its done. I've notices if you close it right after the wizard is done but its not done formatting yet it won't give it a drive letter even if you tell it to. If it doesn't give a drive letter just right click again on the blue bar partition part and click Add drive letter
