- external HDD (WD My Passport) - probably 2 years old
- working fine yesterday then plugged in today and not recognized by My Computer
- Windows 8 laptop, but also tried on pc with Windows Vista (same issue on both computers)

- IS recognized in Disk Management
- IS spinning and is not really making any weird noises (about once every ten minutes will make ONE faint click sound like it's try to do something new)

** Not recognized by HDSentinel

** Can't get to S.M.A.R.T. data on HDDScan

Scan Drive tests say:
Model: WD My Passport 0740
Firmware: 1003
Serial: 07
LBA: 0

- Read test says:
Bad block found, start LBA : 0

- Butterfly Read test says:
Bad block found, start LBA : -1

Is there anything I can do on my end to salvage this drive info or is it worth my money to even attempt to have it recovered professionally?

Solution
I'm not hugely familiar with the My book line, but I assume it has it's own software, have you tried if that's the case to remove and re-install that My Book software? Or updating the drivers? Also since it last worked did you install any new software on your puter? Also you can try disabling your anti-virus and firewall just to insure they aren't playing a role in the problem?

I haven't. I didn't know about this tool. I'll try it and report back. Thank you!

UPDATE: unfortunately, that tool doesn't recognize the passport at all
