Hope someone can help, or at least clarify things for me. I have a lady's laptop that only had 256mb ram. Running xp sp3 and it is a Medion MAM2080. Bought 2 x 1 gb memory modules from crucial and installed but bios only recognising half of the memory. Have tried each module individually and same story. After spending an hour and a half chatting to crucial customer support they have offered a refund as there is nothing they can do. I don't understand why and wonder what my options are for upgrading the memory, if any? Hope someone can help?

Many thanks

Tried running with one and then the other and it still just recognised half the memory on each module. Someone suggested resetting the bios to default settings but not sure how this would help. Not tried it yet.

So it only read at 512 when there was a single gig stick installed? Regardless of what i could find (This is a 7 year old PC which brand i have never heard of) and what i read could be wrong and it may only support 512 gig sticks and 1GB max of ram. So i would probably refund the sticks and get a 512 x 2 set. You could try resetting the bios but i never head of the bios limiting the amount of ram you have. Maybe updating the bios if you can find the latest version? The latest may allow two 1 gig sticks but again i couldn't find any info on this laptop.

Thanks for looking into this, I am flummoxed! Run the risk of replacing sticks with 512mb ones and system only recognising half of those. Maybe it's best to stick with the existing sticks and getting 1gb out of them which is preferable to the 256mb there was before

Eh i doubt that will happen but thats up to you. I've seen this before in older laptops. Had a friend who bought an HP mini that used DDR3. I got a 4 gig stick and only saw 2 gigs. Later read up it only supported 2 Max. I have also had older PIII desktops with 3 slots for ram. I'd have a gig installed (2x256 and 1x512) and it only saw 256 on the 512 because it maxed out at 768 total and 256 a stick. damn i remember when 768 was a lot of ram XD

Ok, will try the 2x 512. Nothing to lose. Thank you very much for your time, and yes, I remember those times too!

Hi there, just installed 2x 512mb of ram and bios only recognising half! Never come across this before - have asked the experts and nobody seems to know why. Thanks for your help anyway!
