Hi everyone,

My boyfriend's laptop has been having issues for the past week or so. Everytime it starts up, it goes to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen with the options "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally". However, neither of these options work, and it won't boot Windows 7 but instead goes to a black screen with a movable cursor. From this screen, I can't activate anything, ctrl-alt-delete does nothing. I've read through forums and have tried many solutions, but haven't had any luck and can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas or solutions?
Here's what I've tried so far: booting from windows 7 install disk, booting from a system repair disk, booting from AVG recovery disk, booting from USB windows 7 install, safe mode, etc. The laptop is an ASUS U56E, is only a few months old, and has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit installed. The processor is an Intel i5.

Thanks!
Rachel

Welcome to the land of re-install windows.

I've seen this happen before and did the research on it.

Unless someone now knows differently you're going to be re-installing.
