I have a Dell inspiron mini with a cracked screen. It still gets power. I thought I could run the cable from my desktop to the inspiron but all it did was put the monitor to sleep. The monitor is a 21in hp 2009m. There isint a place to put in the monitor cd. all my pc's crashed so ive got to get this going. Thanks

normally on laptops, there is a key combo to enable an external monitor, usually the FN key and F5 at the same time
Someit different though, on my dell I'm typing on, its FN + F8. Look for something that either looks like a square/monitor or says CRT/LCD on one of the function keys.
