My computer will not boot to the screen where the start button shows :/ when I power it up, it says operating system not found. Here is what occurred step by step. maybe it will better explain the problem.

Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Now when I put in the Windows Disc, it will make it as far as the screen that says

Confirmation of restore procedure. all data in hard drive C will be lost.
Are you sure you wish to proceed? If yes press y, if no press n.

Following this, I press Y and after a several second pause, this error comes up

"Internal Stack Overflow caused session to halt. Change STACK setting in CONFIG.SYS"

From there I go to A:\"edit config.sys"

I then change the STACKS as stated to do but when I go to File>Save As>Enter I get this as a response

General Error while assessing file A:\config.sys

I hope its something that can be fixed :/

Solution
been doing some thinking on this and what i cant understand is if you are doing a clean install ie formatting the disk and losing all your data, why would stacks setting matter? i think i would try going into the bios and resetting it to its default settings.if you cant get to the bios try removing the cmos battery for a couple of minutes and reinstall it.then try booting from the cd and installing windows.hope this makes some sense.

I did that in BIOS and it still goes to the screen where it says

Confirmation of restore procedure. all data in hard drive C will be lost.
Are you sure you wish to proceed? If yes press y, if no press n.

Following this, I press Y and after a several second pause, this error comes up

"Internal Stack Overflow caused session to halt. Change STACK setting in CONFIG.SYS"

Without the CD in at all, it says No operating System found and will go no further, but with the disc in and setting in bios changed it says as written above but still won't allow me to save the STACKS settings after changing them in edit config.sys :??:

Thank you for your help so far!

I was wondering the same thing.......I've never had to modify that , with all the XP installs I've done.......also wondering why yhou're accessing drive A:, that's usually the floppy, unless you've got different drive letter assignments......

If you can't get past that, maybe you're trying to assign the wrong stack values.
The stacks command sets the number of devices (I think... my DOS book is gone) that can access the system at once. When you run out of space, the system will freeze or give an error. To remedy the problem, you need to increase either the first or second number.

The first number in the stacks command increases the number of devices, and the second increases the memory alocated per device on the stack. Try increasing the first number on the STACKS command as that is what you are probably running out of. Keep the second number at 256.

You also mentioned doing system restore from the CD - have you tried system repair instead? Usually can attempt that when XP setup gives the options to "install" or "repair a Windows installation', then you choose where that install is.

Hope something here helps!
