the pin (connections) are diff between ddr2 and ddr3.....there's no compromise --- if your going to spend $ on mb go with ddr3 mb and spring for some new memory

you made a mistake --- bite the bullet ---- a 'better architecture for gaming :) ' = updated MB and ddr3 memory ( and cpu and graphics)--- the ddr2 s a lesson learned -- sorry but that's the hard truth -- trying to work around the ddr2 and you're chasing your tail --- sorry to be so blunt but that's what's happening

If you can, get the best deal you can find on an Intel i5 processor, a new motherboard that supports sata3 and some ddr3 memory - that would be the bones of a system that will last a while.....then, when you can, upgrade your graphics card.... also look for an over-clockable cpu, some of the cheaper ones are locked - this will allow you to squeeze-out extra performance later on if necessary. return the ddr2 if you can, or sell it on ebay or craigs list.
