G'day lovely people,

I have a small issue with my current PSU, it doesnt have the correct connections for my planned upgrade to dual 770 SLI.

System currently as followed; powered by
Thermaltake toughpower gold 750w
i5 4670k oc'd to 4.6 @ 1.3v
thermaltake NiC f3 cpu cooler
g. skill ripjaws z 2400 ddr3
msi z87 gd65
asus direct cu11 gtx770
samsung 840 240g ssd
lg DVDRW drive
WD 1T blue hdd
avermedia tv card
1 x 150mm fan
2 140mm fans
3 x 120mm fans
asus VG278HE 144hz 3D 1080 monitor with nvidia vision 2

Now, as I have started gaming in 3D a single 770 just isnt quite cutting the mustard for ultra game specs at a decent frame rate. (Tomb raider drops to around 25 fps at ultimate specs with tressfx ON)
I want to get another 770 to SLI but the PSU only lists modular outputs for 1 GPU.

The semi modular PSU has the following connections listed on the box
2 x 8 pin PCI
5 x 6 pin peripheral

Does it matter if im powering a GPU with one connected to the 8 pin PCI and the other to the 6 pin PCI peripheral connector ?

So I have a couple of ideas but not sure if I am going to cause any damage if I do.

Option 1
run 1 of the 2 PCI 8 pins to each GPU and then use 1 of the addiotional 'peripheral' 6 pin connectors to each GPU.

Option 2
use Molex to PCI 6 pin adapters.

Option 3
buy a Corsair AX860.

Option 4
Sell the 770 and buy a 780 and then keep current PSU and connections

So with those options, option 1 is my preference as I wont need to buy anything but the 770.
Im very hesitant about using the molex adapters but it could be perfectly fine.

And I really dont want to buy a new PSU but if that is the only option then Im gonna have to :(
not sure if the 780 is really worth the extra hassle (money, trying to sell the 770 )

So any thoughts or other suggestions would be absolutely marvelous.

Many many thanks to all

Solution
I wouldn't use a connection from a psu in a slot that it was not designed to be used in. There is risk there. Just get the second 770 and wait until you have enough money to get a better psu down the road.

Yeah that was my concern, but wasnt sure if all the connections were the same and just named differently due to the 8 pin vs 6 pin config.

Poooop, its looking like an upgraded PSU may be the only fix then, arrghgh

Oh well,

unless anyone else knows something I dont ( which due to my noobish computer knowledge is very very likely )

thanks as always :D
