Should a power supply be used again?

Hello :)
I am currently replacing my computer's motherboard since it died out on me and I was wondering before I re-install the power supply, if maybe I should use another one. I was told that my motherboard died out from a power surge because it was storming and it was left running. The surge protector being about 18 years old didn't seem to stop the surge. I did the paperclip test on the power supply to see if it was at fault but it turned on just fine. I am wondering if it is safe to use this power supply for the new motherboard or if I should get a different one. It did indeed seem to survive the power surge. Are there any things that could possibly go wrong from using a power supply that survived a power surge? It may just be me being the nervous person I usually am. But I just like to be safe. The power supply it had was a Corsair 600W Bronze certified one. Thanks for your assistance! :)

You should be in the clear to use it, as Corsair is a great maker of power supplies. What I personally would do is send it in for an RMA, saying blah and plah dosent work, and have them check it out, and if there is indeed a fault it will be replaced under warranty, where if its not you get it back for just shipping and avoid the new power supply costs. Either way, cheaper and easier than buying a new one, and it should take about the same time.
